Are you wearing a proper medical gown?
At Dhisve we love to protect you; thats why all our garments are designed to promote infection prevention and control practices; assist in the protection of patients and health personnel. As we understand that hospital environments can contain viruses, bacteria and other microorganisms that put the health of medical staff and patients at risk.
There is currently a wide variety of non-woven fabrics on the market, but can all these fabrics be used in the medical field?
The answer is NO, because the special non-woven fabric for the health sector is the SMS fabric, a fabric made up of 3 layers:
In this blog, we are going to teach you the importance of wearing a gown with the correct fabric and what visual tests you can carry out to identify if the garment you are wearing is made of SS fabric or SMS fabric.
1st Test
Opacity
If when putting on the garment you can see the clothes you are wearing under it, that is the first indication that you are wearing an SS fabric garment. If it were an SMS fabric garment, it would not be see-through.
2nd Test
Particle Passage
Subject the garment to particle blowing. To perform this test, use a balloon inflator with some flour or talcum powder.
The SS fabric will allow the passage of particles; therefore, you will be more likely to be a victim of cross contamination. On the other hand, an SMS fabric provides a barrier against the passage of particles.
3rd Test
Fluid Passage
To perform the following test, use a glass of water and pour it over the garment
In the SMS fabric, the water is trapped in the fabric thanks to the meltblown with its function of filtering microorganisms. A quality that the SS does not have, allowing the passage of fluids. With these tests, you will easily be able to identify if you are wearing the correct garment (surgerygowns and scrubs) for your work, whether you are a doctor, nurse or health sector personnel, it is important that you recognize why you should wear hospital garments that provide safety and reduce the risk of acquiring infections in the work environment.
